Purpose:
Copies content and metadata from
a DocuShare 2.2 server (source) to a DocuShare 3.x or 4.x server
(target). This includes repository contents as well as object property
metadata and all User and Group accounts.
The Migration Tool does NOT copy
your DocuShare system configuration. System configuration must be done by
the DocuShare administrator at the Admin Home site.
The Migration Tool does NOT migrate VDF files.
Requirements:
- Source DocuShare server must be DocuShare 2.2 with
Service Pack 1b (SP1b) or higher.
- Source server must have enough free disk space
available to copy the entire repository contents and metadata prior to
migration.
- Target Server must be a clean install of DocuShare 3
or 4
- Target Server must be licensed
- Target Server cannot have had any content or users
added to the site.
- Target Server must have enough free disk space to
hold the contents from the 2.2 server.
- Source and Target server can be either the same
machine (2.2 and 3 or 4 installed on the same machine) or two machines
that are connected over a network via TCP/IP. Disk space
requirements still apply in either case. In other words, the
available free disk space must be at least 2x the space of your current
DocuShare 2.2 site.
Precautions:
- Backup the source server prior to attempting the
migration. The migration tool does make a copy of your content and
does not modify the current site. The backup is simply a precaution
and good practice before doing any type of major operation on the server.
- It is recommended that the trashcan be “Expunged”
prior to the migration. Contents in the trashcan will NOT be
migrated and may cause errors during the migration process.
- It is recommended that Virus checking be disabled
during the migration to improve throughput performance.
- Allow plenty of time for the migration. This
can take many, many hours depending on the size of the DocuShare
repository.
- After migration is completed the source server should
be left in Read-Only mode to prevent changes or additions. The
migration tool does not support an incremental migration.
Procedure:
- Install DocuShare 3.x or 4.x on the target server and
apply the License Key for your server.
- Take note of the RMI port during installation if
changed from the installation programs default value of 1099.
- Start DocuShare 3 or 4 installation program on the
source server. Select only the DocuShare Migration Tool option
during the installation process.
Note: If source and target servers are the same machine, you only need
to install DocuShare 3 or 4 once. Select the Full DocuShare or
DocuShare without the Scan Feature option. - If you are installing the Migration Tool on the
source server you will be prompted for the host name and RMI port of the
target server. Use the fully qualified DNS name of the target
server, i.e. my.docushare.server.com. You can accept the default RMI
port of 1099 unless you changed it during installation of DocuShare 3 or 4
on the target server.
- After installation create a temporary directory on
the source server. This temporary directory will be used by the
migration tool to copy the contents of the repository before copying to
the target server
- Open a command prompt window on the source server.
- In the command prompt window change the directory to
%dshome%\bin, where %dshome%
is the DocuShare installation directory.
- Enter the command “dsupgrade2 c:\ds_temp” where ds_temp is the temporary directory you created in the
previous step.
- As the migration tool runs its progress is reported
in the command prompt window. A log file will also be created.
- When the migration is completed you will be prompted
to remove the temporary files. Say yes to remove unless you want to
save this temporary copy.
- Check the log file for any errors.
- Log in as Admin to your DocuShare 3 server and
validate that your migration is complete. All your content, users
and groups should now be on the DocuShare 3 or 4 site.
- Configure your DocuShare system for your environment
at this time.
